2019 Medical Charity Project for
Valeriia and Leila who are diagnosed with laryngeal papillomatosis
2019
Medical Charity Project was held from Jul 24th to Aug 23rd. Yeson Voice Center
(YVC) has been participating in this project every year since 2011. This
project is organized by Ministry of Health and Welfare and managed by KHIDI to
support child patients from developing countries by providing the medical
services. The main goal of this project is to give every child hopes and dreams
by helping them to live a better and healthier life. At the same time it is
helping to promote the well developed medical systems and services available in
Korea.
This
time YVC has invited Valeriia Sedakova, a 7-year-old-girl from Russia, and
Leila Kalybekova, a 5-year-old-girl from Kirgizstan. Their diagnosis is
laryngeal Papillomatosis, a highly recurrent disease which requires further
surgeries quite often with recurrence rate of 80% on average.
To
completely treat the laryngeal papillomatosis and to reduce the recurrence rate,
three separate surgeries were completed this time and all staff have been
keeping their eye on patientsto monitor their condition.
Yeson
Voice Center has been treating more than 22 patients who are diagnosed with
this highly recurrent disease called laryngeal papilloma since 2011 free of
charge. Many of them are sending regards to Dr. Kim in the video speaking with
their restored healthy voice.
Dr.
Kim said in the interview, “I feel sorry for them
whenever I see them fighting against this disease which recurs over and over.
Their improved voice after surgery gives me a lot of energy to work harder. I
would like to give them hopes as much as I can.”
